REFORMA — This week, the Associated Press released documents and testimonies which reveal the alleged practice of torture and inducement of the statements upon which the “historic truth” was founded in the Ayotzinapa case.
There is an entire compendium detailing the circumstances under which the main witnesses and defendants in the case surrounding the disappearance of 43 Ayotzinapa normal school students between the 26th and 27th September 2014 made their formal statements to the investigative police.
According to Associated Press, the statements all went down a similar path:
“They were first questioned, followed by punches, electric shocks and partial asphyxiations with plastic bags; finally, the threats to kill their loved ones unless they confessed to stories that backed up the government’s line.”
It is not the first time that there are references to the use of torture to obtain admissions from detainees in the case. The recently disbanded IGIE [Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts] also noticed it in reports and declarations backed up by medical reports to accredit them.
