New Report by Experts Cites Other Attacks on Day Mexican Students Disappeared

LATIN AMERICAN HERALD TRIBUNE — MEXICO CITY – Additional roadblocks and armed attacks involving police and criminals occurred in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero on Sept. 26, 2014, the day 43 education students disappeared, indicating that the area experiencing violence was larger than previously estimated, the experts studying the case said Sunday.

“This great expanse of territory where there were incidents of violence and mobilizations of police and organized crime groups shows a broader area of action than what was initially available for investigation,” the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, or IACHR, Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts said in its second and final report.

The group’s term for studying the case ends this month and was not extended by the government.

The IACHR experts called on the Mexican Attorney General’s Office to investigate whether the 43 Ayotzinapa Rural Normal School students were killed because one of the buses they had commandeered for a protest was being used to transport drugs.
