Taxímetro, Por Favor

CAPS — Central American aliens, confident that the toothless Department of Homeland Security will do nothing to stop their illegal entry, are using Uber to accelerate their journey. Why walk when being chauffeured is so much more comfortable? In June, Mexican immigration officials apprehended 34 Central Americans traveling in five separate Uber vehicles. Two months earlier, seven other Uber cars on suspicious missions were identified, according to Segismundo Doguin from Mexico’s National Migration Institute.

Aliens increasingly confident, creative in illegal entry schemes.

What an unlucky day for the Central Americans! If they had been able to get to the U.S. border, they would have been home free. President Obama’s catch and release program would have ensured their safe entry, assuming they had the misfortune to be caught in the first place.

Coming to the U.S. on Uber is the latest fad among aliens, and replaces another popular illegal entry mode, the jet ski. Two years ago, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested several Mexican nationals smuggled into California on jet skis.

Critics claim that lax U.S. immigration enforcement makes the nation a worldwide laughing stock. Think about it. In no other sovereign nation would illegal immigrants be so brazen and so confident of their ultimate success to unlawfully enter in taxis or on jet skis. The audacity of these attempts should be an embarrassment to the Obama administration, and DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson, but instead it’s just another day at the office.
