Kremlin-Clinton Corruption Gets a Look

VDARE BY BRENDA WALKER– The rapid attribution of the DNC email hack to the Russians who supposedly wanted to help Trump in the election certainly looked suspicious, since Hillary Clinton is far more tangled up with the Kremlin than Trump. It was reported over a year ago that the Clinton Foundation received millions of dollars from investors in a deal that ended up with Russia owning part of America’s uranium reserve. How is that not treason on the face?

Monday’s Wall Street Journal has an article by Peter Schweizer, focused on Hillary’s efforts to help Moscow to get technology transfers which undermined US national security. Schweizer was the researcher who wrote the book Clinton Cash, which was the basis for the important documentary of the same name — watchable online at Breitbart: Clinton Cash Movie. The enormous size of the Clintons’ grift is astounding, in addition to the many dangers it created for America. Every voter should watch the Clinton Cash documentary.

KT McFarland appeared on Fox News on Monday and expressed her alarm about the level of public corruption in the Clinton Foundation:

Hillary Clinton Would Hike Taxes by $1.3 Trillion

WASHINGTON FREE BEACON — Hillary Clinton comes up $2.2 trillion short in paying for her policy agenda, despite hiking taxes by $1.3 trillion, according to a new analysis of the Democratic nominee’s campaign platform.

The American Action Forum, a center-right policy institute, released a report Thursday finding Clinton’s domestic agenda would “have a dramatic effect on the federal budget.”

Gordon Gray, American Action Forum’s director of fiscal policy, based the report on estimates of policy proposals from the Clinton campaign itself, as well as independent analyses from the Tax Policy Center and the Center for a Responsible Federal Budget.

Gordon Gray, American Action Forum’s director of fiscal policy, based the report on estimates of policy proposals from the Clinton campaign itself, as well as independent analyses from the Tax Policy Center and the Center for a Responsible Federal Budget.

Gray found Clinton’s policies for expanding government’s role in family leave and student loans would contribute significantly to the deficit, and in turn a growing national debt that stands at $19.358 trillion.

In fact, the amount of debt held by the public alone would reach $25.825 trillion in 2026 under Clinton’s plan. The amount of debt held by the public today is $13.968 trillion.

“Based on these estimates, Secretary Clinton’s proposals would, on net and over a ten-year period (2017-2026), increase revenues by $1.3 trillion, increase outlays by $3.5 trillion, for a combined deficit effect of nearly $2.2 trillion over the next decade,” Gray wrote.

DHS Chief Sees Signs of Success in Getting Countries to Take Back Illegals

WASHINGTON TIMES — Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said he’s seen some signs of progress in getting other countries to take their illegal immigrants back when the U.S. tries to deport them, and signaled he’d wait to see how those efforts play out before he’ll commit to stripping visas from those that still refuse.

He’s bucking bipartisan pressure from Capitol Hill where lawmakers, spurred by several high-profile cases, say the U.S. has been woefully reluctant to play hardball with other countries — leaving their criminals on the streets here, where they’ve gone on to kill Americans.

Mr. Johnson, attending a breakfast with reporters hosted by the Christian Science Monitor, also said he’s on track to meet President Obama’s goal of accepting 10,000 Syrian refugees this year, defended his department’s treatment of illegal immigrants from Central America, and said that as long as they aren’t endangering the candidates, his Secret Service agents shouldn’t be policing the press covering presidential campaigns.

He said it’s too early to determine who was responsible for the hack of the Democratic National Committee’s emails, which have embarrassed party officials in recent weeks — but said the growing potential for cybersecurity problems means it may be necessary to designate elections as “critical infrastructure,” which would invoke a more active role for the department in promoting security.

Another Mayor Killed in Mexico, the Third in Two Weeks

BORDERLAND BEAT — Puebla (Mexico) (AFP) – A mayor was shot dead in Mexico’s central Puebla state, the third mayor to be killed within two weeks, authorities said Tuesday, prompting calls for better security for municipal officials.

Jose Santamaria Zavala, the mayor of Huehuetlan El Grande, was found dead Monday night next to his bullet-riddled sport-utility vehicle, according to a police report obtained by AFP.

The bullets came from a 9mm-caliber handgun, the Puebla state prosecutor’s office said in a statement. The mayor’s body was found inside his SUV at kilometer 10 of the highway to Huehuetlan El Grande in a village called Tonale.

“Both the victim and the vehicle had bullet holes from a 9 mm handgun,” the AG’s office said in a statement.

The motive for the mayor’s murder may have been robbery, but investigators are looking at other possible reasons, the AG’s office said.

The initial investigation indicates Santamaria Zavala, 44, was the victim of a robbery attempt, the statement said, adding that authorities were not ruling out other motives.

“There were rocks on the road to block the path of the SUV,” it said, citing evidence and the testimony of an unidentified person who was with the mayor.

Lookout Chicago! Obama’s Homeboys Are on Their Way… Shortens Sentences for 56 With Gun Convictions

DAILY CALLER — Barack Obama announced on Wednesday that he is shortening prison sentences for 214 federal prisoners, 56 of whom have firearms related convictions on their records.

The mass commutation is the largest ever issued in a single day U.S. history, the White House said in a press release.

Obama has now shortened sentences for 562 federal prisoners, more than the nine previous presidents combined. Nearly 200 of those prisoners were serving life sentences, including 67 of the felons in the most recent batch of commutations.

While Obama has said that he wants to commute sentences for nonviolent drug criminals, the latest commutations suggest that the administration is lowering the bar by shortening sentences for gun criminals.

It also undermines Obama’s calls for tougher gun laws to cut gun crime.

In May, Obama announced he was commuting sentences for 58 federal prisoners. None of those had firearms convictions. In March, Obama commuted sentences for 61 convicts, 12 of whom had firearms related convictions. In a round of commutations announced in December, Obama commuted sentences for 95 convicts. Thirteen had firearms convictions.

Most of the federal felons on Wednesday’s list were convicted of carrying or using firearms while trafficking drugs. Others were charged with illegally possessing firearms because they are felons.

Obama, the Muslim Terrorist Financier

WASHINGTON TIMES — Deep down inside, we all have known if for a long time haven’t we, that the Obama administration is financing and enabling terror? We have known for a long time he is an Islamist with jihadist sympathies. Why else would he have not destroyed ISIS? What better way than to just make them out to be the JV team while they metastasize across Western Europe and the United States. All they needed was time, until there would be no time left to do anything about them. The damage is done. Now we know a little of how deep this rabbit hole goes.

The fact the Obama/Hillary/Kerry sent billions in cash to the real Islamic State, Iran, is proof of everything I just said above. Where did he think they would spend that cash? Does he think they are going to strip clubs? No, the cash would be laundered, untraceable, to fund terror around the world from the largest state sponsor of terror, Iran.

Iran is actively supporting ISIS in Egypt. We have proof of that publicly. Most likely, they are supporting terror cells around the world as well, including the United States. This cash comes in very handy to do that. Especially, since Iran was having a hard time coming up with cash due to global sanctions. No problem they said, we’ll just take a few hostages and Obama and Iranian-born Valerie Jarrett will trade them for cold, hard euros, etc.

Now Europeans have died. Americans have died. Jews have died in Israel.

More is yet to come. Stay tuned.

All brought to you by your friendly terror financier, Barack Obama, President of the United States.

UN Backs Secret Obama Takeover of Police

International Org Calls for Federalization of U.S.
Law Enforcement to be ‘beefed Up,’ Cover All of America

POLIZETTE — “The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice has provided oversight and recommendations for improvement of police services in a number of cities with consent decrees. This is one of the most effective ways to reduce discrimination in law enforcement and it needs to be beefed up and increased to cover as many of the 18,000-plus local law enforcement jurisdictions.”

That was United Nations Rapporteur Maina Kai on July 27, a representative of the U.N. Human Rights Council, who on the tail-end of touring the U.S., endorsed a little-known and yet highly controversial practice by the Justice Department to effect a federal takeover of local police and corrections departments.

The consent decrees are already being implemented in Newark, New Jersey; Miami, Florida; Los Angeles, California; Ferguson, Missouri; Chicago, Illinois; and other municipalities.

Here’s how it works: the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice files a lawsuit in federal court against a city, county, or state, alleging constitutional and civil rights violations by the police or at a corrections facility. It is done under 42 U.S.C. § 14141, a section of the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, granting the attorney general the power to prosecute law enforcement misconduct. The municipality then simply agrees to the judicial finding — without contest — and the result is a wide-reaching federal court order that imposes onerous regulations on local police.

The federal court orders are designed to undo Rudy Giuliani-style policing tactics that were effective at reducing crime in big cities in the 1990s and 2000s.

In short, the much-feared nationalization of local police departments is already being initiated by the Obama administration’s Justice Department. And somehow nobody noticed.

Federal requirements include how searches are conducted, what constitutes legitimate use of force, the mandatory use of on-body cameras by the police, and so forth. The agreements impose years-long compliance review regimes, implementation deadlines, and regular reviews by federal bureaucrats. This makes local police directly answerable to the Civil Rights Division at the DOJ.

D.C. Transit Police Officer Accused of Trying to Support Islamic State

WASHINGTON TIMES — A Metro Transit Police officer was arrested and charged Wednesday with trying to provide support for the Islamic State — marking the first case in which a U.S. law enforcement officer has been accused of aiding the terrorist group.

The Justice Department said Nicholas Young, 36, who has worked for the Metro Transit Police Department since 2003, gave advice on crossing the border into Syria and evading detection to a person he believed was a U.S. military reservist who wanted to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State.

Last month, he sent $245 worth of gift cards for mobile-messaging accounts to the man, who actually was a confidential informant for the FBI, authorities said.

Though the actions that led to the criminal charges are said to have occurred from 2014 to 2016, an FBI spokeswoman said Mr. Young first landed on investigators’ radar in 2009, when Metro Transit officials reported “suspicious” activities by Mr. Young.

An investigation was opened into Mr. Young in 2010, the same year that authorities interviewed him as a result of his friendship with Zachary Chesser.

Electoral College Elector Vows to Disregard State Voters

DAILY CALLER — Georgia is one of 21 states that does not require its electors on the Electoral College to abide by the popular vote results in the states, and Georgia elector Baoky Vu is pledging not to give his vote to Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Vu is a longtime GOP activist who released a statement Wednesday that said, “This is the Republican Party of Lincoln and Reagan and Romney and Ryan, not the Party of Donald Trump.”

“I take my role seriously and in the face of the difficult choice before us, I will always put America First over party and labels. Thus, I will not be voting for Donald Trump in the general election. My conscience is clear but my soul is being tested,” Vu added.

Vu is a naturalized U.S citizen who fled from Vietnam in 1975. He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he has “the right to vote for a write-in candidate in the electoral college.”

Georgia has 16 electoral votes. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Trump with a 4-point lead over Hillary Clinton. Each party has its own slate of electors and Vu would only be one if Trump wins Georgia.

Miami’s Wynwood, Immigrant Refuge Turned Hipster Haven, Becomes Epicenter of Zika Outbreak

FOX NEWS LATINO — MIAMI – Near a street corner in the west end of Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, Carmen Negrete pours a bucket of grimy water into a storm drain. These days, the hot dog stand owner is taking extra precautions to keep her work area spic and span.

“I don’t want to attract any bugs,” Negrete said. “Given the recent warnings about Zika, one has to be extra careful, especially people handling food.”

Negrete, who came to Miami from Mexico in 1990, has parked her stand on the same sidewalk for the past 10 years, watching Wynwood evolve from once working-class, immigrant heavy community to a trendy, artist powerhouse destination. As the neighborhood faces its first bout of negative press as the epicenter of the first outbreak of locally contracted Zika virus, Negrete told Fox News Latino that Wynwood and its inhabitants have quickly responded to address the crisis.

“If the city wasn’t cleaning the sidewalks, I would do it,” Negrete said. “It doesn’t cost me anything.”

On Monday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned pregnant women or those planning to get pregnant, as well as their partners, not to travel to a small area north of downtown Miami that includes Wynwood. In the past week, Florida health officials have confirmed 14 cases of people infected with Zika virus after being bitten by local mosquitoes in that area, which is roughly 150 square meters. A 15th case was recently discovered in another part of Miami.

China Rejects Accusations in Japan Defense Report

AP — BEIJING — China’s Defense Ministry has angrily rejected accusations from Japan that the Chinese military is destabilizing the regional military balance by seeking to change the status-quo in the East and South China Seas, accusing Japan of seeking to deceive the international community and sow discord between China and its neighbors.

A ministry statement issued late Tuesday Japan’s annual defense report was “full of lousy clichés, makes irresponsible remarks on China’s normal and legal national defense and military development (and) hypes up the East and South China Sea issues.”

“The ultimate objective of Japan is to cook (up) excuses for adjusting by leaps and bounds its military and security policies and accelerating its arms expansion, even rewriting the pacifist constitution,” the statement said, referring to legislation passed last year that loosened post-World War II constraints on the Japanese military.

WHEN WILL THIS STOP? DISABLED NAVY VET AND SERVICE DOG ASKED TO LEAVE RESTAURANT — WUSA — From WUSA in Virginia comes the story of disabled Navy veteran Heather Diaz, who has been hassled by two restaurants in the past week because of her service dog, Brinkley.

Diaz is susceptible to migraine headaches and anxiety attacks, which Brinkley can detect and stave off. “He’s helped lower my blood pressure. My blood pressure was 140/84. And after 30 days with him, it dropped to 107/70,” she said.

In the first troubling incident of the week, Diaz was asked to leave the Genghis Grill in Chantilly, VA, because of her dog. As she recalled the conversation: “The manager’s name is Juan. He came up to me and said, ‘You need to leave. Dogs are not allowed. And I said, ‘He is a service dog.’ And he said, ‘I don’t care.’”

He still didn’t care, even when Diaz cited the laws governing service dogs to him, although another manager later told WUSA she was correct that it was against the law for the restaurant to refuse service. The Genghis Grill released a statement claiming that all of its employees are trained to avoid discrimination, which doesn’t explain why one particular manager treated Diaz the way he did.

The following day, Diaz and her two children arrived at an Olive Garden restaurant in Manassas and were repeatedly passed over for seating because of Brinkley. (Her husband is currently deployed in the Middle East.)

“The manager’s excuse was we have to go around asking all the people in the restaurant which you would be sitting near if they have dog allergies or a problem with a service dog,” said Diaz. She wound up going to a different Olive Garden, which seated her and her family immediately.

Once again, the restaurant insisted it was well-aware of the laws governing service dogs, and all of its teams are “trained on what to do when a guest is accompanied by a service animal.”

In fact, the Olive Garden admitted, “this guest has dined with us in our Manassas location with her service dog many times before.”

Service dogs wear livery, clearly identifying them as such. They’re used by civilians too, of course, but the large number of veterans returning from operations overseas probably means there will be more of them. Training on how to handle service dogs should be comprehensive, with respect for the laws of each state, and maybe a little benefit of the doubt for those who depend upon them.

WHAT WE LOSE WHEN WE GIVE AWAY PURPLE HEARTS — T&P — For thousands of service members, we didn’t “get” the Purple Heart, we each traded something for it.

“Man,” Donald Trump said, as retired Lt. Col. Louis Dorfman handed him a Purple Heart medal on Aug. 2, 2016. “‘… that’s, like, that’s, like, big stuff.’ I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.”

For approximately 500,000 living veterans, a chord was struck with these words, and for many of us it was not a pleasant sound. And that number is only about a quarter to a third of those who have received the medal over the course of history. Many recipients never even saw the profile of Gen. George Washington in their hand or wore it upon their uniform; it was presented instead to their surviving spouses or parents along with a folded flag. It wasn’t easy in the least, not for any of us.

You see, for those of us men and women who have felt real pain and the ramifications of real hate — not the superficial nonsense Trump displays in all his blustering at perceived or real verbal insults — we didn’t “get” the Purple Heart. There is no “getting” that award just as there is no “wanting” it. None of us volunteer for combat with the hope that we will come home in pieces, and some among us don’t get to come home at all. It’s not supposed to be easy to receive those medals. The meaning is lost when we start giving them away to people who don’t understand that.

COURT WON’T REHEAR VENTURA CASE AGAINST CHRIS KYLE’S ESTATE — AP — MINNEAPOLIS — An appeals court has denied former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura’s request for a rehearing of his defamation case against the estate of slain Navy SEAL and “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle.

In June, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals tossed out a $1.8 million verdict awarded to Ventura. On Tuesday, the court denied a request for a rehearing without giving a reason.

Ventura’s attorney, David Olsen, had argued that the court’s ruling placed too much emphasis on comments Olsen made at trial that suggested insurance would cover a defamation award.

Kyle’s autobiography was the basis for the 2014 film “American Sniper.” Ventura, a former SEAL, took issue with Kyle’s claim that Kyle punched Ventura at a California bar in 2006 for offensive comments about the SEALs.

COMBAT ENGINEER HAS VIVID MEMORIES FROM WAR — REDSTONE ROCKET — The Soldiers in the engineer unit in Vietnam used to call him “Dangerous Dan.” He was a lieutenant who seemed more determined to kill his fellow troops than the Viet Cong.

Vietnam veteran Horace Allen Jr. recalls that this irrational lieutenant couldn’t be trusted to search for land mines and once dropped a live grenade in the jeep. Finally the Army transferred “Dangerous Dan” to an infantry unit where he got wounded and eventually was killed.

Allen, 73, who lost his eyesight in June, has vivid memories like these of his yearlong tour in Vietnam from 1967-68 with the 580th Engineer Battalion under the 25th Infantry Division.

The Madison resident retired as a sergeant major in 1992 after 30 years of service. He spent his last five years in uniform as the sergeant major for the ROTC battalion at Alabama A&M University on assignment from Fort Riley, Kansas.

SUICIDE RATE OF U.S. VETERANS ROSE ONE THIRD SINCE 2001, STUDY FINDS — REUTERS — The suicide rate among American veterans has increased by nearly a third since 2001, a bigger rise than in the wider population of the United States, a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs study released on Wednesday said.

The report estimated that an average of 20 veterans a day died from suicide in 2014, or about 7,300 in the year, compared to a previous estimate of 22 a day. But researchers have cautioned against relying too heavily on that figure to indicate trends in suicides because it does not take into account that the overall number of veterans is declining because of deaths from old age.

For the first time, a study of veteran suicides drew from 55 million veterans’ records from 1979 to 2014 and from every U.S. state, the report said. Previous studies were more limited in scope and drew from three million records from 20 states or from records of those using veterans health services.

The study found that between 2001 and 2014, veteran suicides increased by 32 percent, while civilian suicides increased by 23 percent in the same time period. After controlling for factors like age and gender, this meant veterans faced a 21 percent greater risk for suicide than those who had not served in the armed forces.

GOVERNMENT RENEGES ON PAYING MILITARY WIDOWS — SIERRA STAR — In the midst of grief over losing their military spouses, many surviving widows and widowers shockingly learn that they won’t be receiving most or any of the government pension into which their spouses had paid.

If the service member paid into a U.S. Department of Defense annuity (the Survivor Benefit Pension or SBP) to provide for the spouse, but died of a service-related cause, the survivor becomes eligible for the Dependency and Indemnity Compensation from the Veterans Administration. They learn, usually belatedly, that for every dollar received from the indemnity, a dollar is subtracted or offset from the annuity.

These are monies for totally different purposes, with one funded by the veteran for insurance for the spouse; the other is a benefit related to the veteran’s sacrifice. No survivor of a federal employee loses dual benefits.

While a temporary supplemental payment is granted (the Special Survivor Indemnity Allowance or SSIA), it is for a fraction of the amount the service member contracted for and many families have lost up to 75% of their income.

As much as 65% of SBP/DIC Offset surviving spouses receive zero in SBP payments as a result of the offset, and many live below poverty levels.

I’m one of 63,000 military widows affected by this offset. My retired Army officer husband Jim and I moved here Christmas Day 2013. We met in Saigon, Vietnam just two months before the Communist Tet Offensive. He was with the famed joint special ops group MACVSOG; I was a DOD civilian.

VIETNAM VET CITED AFTER ANGRY CONFRONTATION WITH POKEMON GO PLAYERS — FOX — A Vietnam veteran’s tirade against Pokemon GO players at a veterans park in Minnesota was caught on video, leading to a citation — but also leading officials Monday to consider banning games from the park entirely.

Warning: Video contains profanity.

Bruce Reed Jr. of Winona was cited for fourth-degree criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors, the Winona Daily News reported.

Reed was seen telling players Veterans Memorial Park was “not a f—— campground.” The video Thursday showed him knocking over a portable picnic awning that was set up not far from war monuments.

At one point, he appeared to knock the camera from the hands of the person recording. Reed told The Associated Press he was having a “flashback” to Vietnam during the confrontation.

VETS GROUP SAYS ‘DON’T EXPECT MUCH’ FROM OBAMA ON VA REFORM — TOWNHALL — Judging by President Obama’s speech at the convention for Disabled American Veterans on Monday, you’d think his administration had done all it could to restore veterans faith in government. He and his team have cut in half veteran homelessness and unemployment, he proudly told his audience. In terms of the Veterans Affairs scandal, Obama and new VA Secretary Bob McDonald have overseen the effort to hire thousands more doctors, resulting in more appointments and shorter wait times, and both of them are dedicated to enacting more reforms, the president said.

Concerned Veterans for America begs to differ. In a statement on Monday following Obama’s remarks, CVA Vice President of Policy and Communications Dan Caldwell set the record straight about the current state of the VA.

“President Obama has failed to reform and fix the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and many of the long-term institutional problems that have plagued the department for decades have only gotten worse under his watch. Despite claims to the contrary in his speech, access to VA health care has not improved under President Obama. In fact, according to the VA’s own data, wait times for hundreds of thousands of veterans have actually increased since the VA wait list scandal began two years ago – despite the billions of dollars in additional funding and thousands of new VA employees that President Obama touted in his speech. In addition, President Obama’s administration failed to eliminate the VA disability claims back log – despite years of promises from him to do so.”

As for McDonald’s supposed “sincere” effort to bring about change, that pledge was seriously questioned after the secretary dared to compare veterans’ VA wait times to standing in line at Disneyland.

FEDS RELEASE REPORT ON RAZING OF HISTORIC PEARL HARBOR HOME — AP — HONOLULU — The National Park Service blames the improper demolition of a historic building at Pearl Harbor on a lack of understanding and training.

The Park Service launched an investigation after discovering the mistake earlier this year. The federal agency found officials did not consult historic preservation authorities as required in part because they lacked an understanding of cultural-resource laws and responsibilities.

The agency’s investigation also concluded a cultural resource compliance coordinator responsible for the project was inadequately trained. A report released last week identified turnover of key park staff as another contributing factor to the problem.

The home was among six bungalows the Navy built in the 1920s and 1930s that the Park Service plans to restore. A building similar in style to the demolished home now stands in its place.

FOUNDATION GIVES $3M TO TELL BOB HOPE’S STORY AT WW2 MUSEUM — AP — NEW ORLEANS — Bob Hope’s commitment to entertaining U.S. troops will be recognized at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans through a $3 million donation from the comedian’s foundation.

Hope’s story “represents the value of laughter and humanity in even the darkest times,” the museum said in a news release.

The museum examines the American experience in World War II, and Hope’s role is “essential to revealing this era’s history,” museum President and CEO Gordon H. “Nick” Mueller said.

Hope, who died in 2003, performed for troops from World War II until the Persian Gulf War.

Museum plans include a special exhibit, a documentary about Hope’s achievements and a film series honoring his legacy. The museum also will make photographs, artifacts and other archival materials about Hope available through its digital collections at ww2online.org.

The museum also will offer military, families of military and veterans some free tickets to shows at BB’s Stage Door Canteen. The new “Tickets for Troops” program began this summer, along with an annual youth theater camp to teach students about dance, song, costume, set design and Hope’s role in World War II.

“I know my dad would be extremely proud of this association with The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, one of his favorite cities,” Linda Hope said. “We all hope that the visitors to the National WWII Museum enjoy learning more about his service to the armed forces and hopefully it will trigger some special memories.”

DE ESPRESSO LIBER | A VETERAN OWNED COFFEE COMPANY — LOADOUT ROOM — The military consumes a lot of coffee. It’s been a source of comfort for them for a very long time even if one of the old Army cadences runs like this, “They say that in the Army, the coffee is mighty fine. It looks like muddy water and tastes like turpentine.” Basic rations and coffee must go hand in hand and along with it come rituals on how it is prepared and consumed in garrison, the field and in warfare. The history of coffee supposedly goes back to the 10th century. That’s a long time for soldiers to be drinking brew and kicking butt.

In his book Gettysburg: The Pivotal Battle of the Civil War, author Captain Robert K. Beecham wrote about soldiers and coffee. He penned, “The power of the soldiers to endure the fatigue of the march and keep their places in the ranks was greatly enhanced by an opportunity to brew a cup of coffee by the wayside.” Coffee has consoled and fueled soldiers for hundreds of years.

In a fascinating article written by Jon Grinspan he describes the importance of coffee during the Civil War. “It was the greatest coffee run in American history. The Ohio boys had been fighting since morning, trapped in the raging battle of Antietam, in September 1862. Suddenly, a 19-year-old William McKinley appeared, under heavy fire, hauling vats of hot coffee. The men held out tin cups, gulped the brew and started firing again. “It was like putting a new regiment in the fight,” their officer recalled. Three decades later, McKinley ran for president in part on this singular act of caffeinated heroism.”

PHONE SCAM SEEKS DONATIONS IN NAME OF WOUNDED-VETERANS GROUP — S&S — The Military Order of the Purple Heart — a congressionally chartered service organization for active-duty and combat-wounded veterans — is warning about a telephone scam being conducted in its name.

Unknown individuals have been cold-calling people across the United States, often from 315-516-2512, and requesting donations for the upcoming presidential election. The callers say they’re doing so on behalf of MOPH and mention the name of the group’s national commander, Robert Puskar.

“The public should be informed that these calls are a hoax,” a MOPH statement said. “MOPH remains an apolitical organization and, as such, ‘shall not contribute to or otherwise support or assist any political party of candidate for public office.”

The statement asks people to contact local authorities if they receive such calls.

MOPH was formed in 1932 “for the protection and mutual interest of all combat wounded veterans and active-duty men and women who have received a Purple Heart, the statement said. The group also helps with Veterans Administration claims, homelessness and employment assistance.

CONGRESS’ 4 FEMALE VETS ARE SPEAKING UP ON MILITARY ISSUES — WASHINGTON POST — There are now four female veterans in Congress.

And they have something to say about the changing face of the Armed Forces, which is officially open to women joining combat units across the board.

They are a diverse group: Democratic Reps. Tammy Duckworth, Ill., is a former Blackhawk helicopter pilot, and Tulsi Gabbard, Hawaii, served in the military police in Kuwait. Republican Rep. Martha McSally, Ariz., flew A-10s for the Air Force and Sen. Joni Ernst, Iowa, served in the Iowa National Guard.

But they are speaking together in Congress just as the Pentagon is implementing sweeping changes to the face of the military. And as they raise their voices, their colleagues are listening to them on issues ranging from sexual harassment in the military to expanding family leave and planning options for soldiers and – most recently – whether women should be eligible for the draft.

“There’s still a lot of misperception that exists and a lot of misinformation, though by and large most people are sincerely interested in learning more and hearing more from us” about women in combat roles, Gabbard said in an interview. “We’re coming at this as a continuation of the service to our country.”

The foursome is hardly a sisterhood-in-arms – they are divided ideologically and their interactions outside of the Armed Services committee rooms are relatively infrequent, although Gabbard and McSally belong to the same morning workout group.

In a short period of time, the women have become go-to authorities in a legislative arena traditionally dominated by men – and especially male veterans. And their experience in the male-dominated military has taught them important lessons about how to survive in Washington.

REAL SPOUSE TRANSITION: SHE SERVED TOO — MILCOM — When Catherine DeLeal left the Marine Corps with six years of active duty and three deployments in three years to Iraq, she didn’t think about the emotional side effects of transition. She just knew it was the right move for their family.

A Naval Academy graduate, DeLeal came from a family with a long tradition of military service and she married a fellow Marine.

Balancing two military careers was difficult enough, but when they were ready to have children and realized they would likely be sent two different bases, DeLeal and her husband decided it was best for her to get out and for him to continue serving. He had more time in service and was much closer to retirement.

This meant that, rather than transitioning away from active-duty military life together, DeLeal went through that adjustment on her own.

DHS Gives 8,000 Syrian Refugees Temporary Amnesty

TOWNHALL– The Department of Homeland Security is granting some 8,000 Syrian refugees temporary amnesty, according to The Washington Times. DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said that if these refugees are in the country as of Monday—they’re eligible to permanent resident status, work permits, and other documents that would allow these migrants to remain without fear of deportation This amnesty also applies to Syrian refugees that may have entered the country illegally:

Secretary Jeh Johnson issued “temporary protected status” to Syrians, saying that if they are in the U.S. as of Monday and continue to reside here permanently, they can apply for work permits and other documents to remain and live in the U.S. without fear of being ousted.

His order applies to some 5,800 Syrians who were granted status under the original 2012 TPS program, and 2,500 new arrivals who don’t have a more permanent status here.

“Syria’s lengthy civil conflict has resulted in high levels of food insecurity, limited access to water and medical care, and massive destruction of Syria’s infrastructure. Attacks against civilians, the use of chemical weapons and irregular warfare tactics, as well as forced conscription and use of child soldiers have intensified the humanitarian crisis,” Mr. Johnson said in announcing the new program.

Those eligible for TPS include any Syrian illegal immigrants who have managed to sneak into or remain in the U.S. beyond their visa expirations over the last four years.

Joe wrote earlier today that 2,340 refugees were admitted in July, bringing the total number accepted into the country to a little over 7,500. President Obama promised to resettle 10,000 such refugees last year. The Washington Times added that TPS order run for 18 months. It expires on March 31, 2018. One of the issues regarding the Syrian refugee crisis is the notion that ISIS will embed themselves with these migrants. There’s also the issue of crime and the challenges of cultural assimilation. Norway has to offer seminars to tell Muslim men that rape is not legal or acceptable in the country. In England and Wales, The UK Express reported that around 900 Syrians were arrested in a year for a laundry lis of crimes, some of which included rape and child abuse. The crime issue arose last New Years’ Eve when migrants sexually assaulted some 500 women in Cologne, Germany.

Border Patrol Website Provides Info to Illegals on How and Where to Hide Inside America

FOX NEWS — Immigrants who want to enter the U.S. illegally can learn how and where to avoid the Border Patrol from an advisory on the agency’s own website, which critics say is evidence of the Obama administration’s “schizophrenic” approach to enforcement.

Safety and sanctuary can generally be found at schools, churches, hospitals and protests, where Customs and Border Protection agents are barred under a “sensitive locations policy” from carrying out their duty of enforcing border security. In fact, the agency’s website states that actions at such locations can only be undertaken in an emergency or with a supervisor’s approval.

“The policies are meant to ensure that ICE and CBP officers and agents exercise sound judgment when enforcing federal law at or focused on sensitive locations, to enhance the public understanding and trust, and to ensure that people seeking to participate in activities or utilize services provided at any sensitive location are free to do so, without fear or hesitation,” the government website states in both English and Spanish.

While the explanation is apparently meant to show the deference Customs and Border Protection agents show to sensitive societal institutions, critics, including the Media Research Center, say it also tells illegal border crossers where to go if they are being pursued. Agents are barred from interviewing, searching or arresting suspected illegal immigrants in such locations.

“So, almost any illegal alien can escape arrest by either walking with a second person (a march), attending some type of class, or finding a nearby church, medical facility or school bus stop,” the Center wrote in a post bringing the advisory to light.

DOJ Rewards Law-Breaking Sanctuary Cities, States With $342 Mil in “Grants”

JUDICIAL WATCH — The Obama administration rewards sanctuary states, counties and cities that shield violent illegal immigrants from deportation with hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants and one of the biggest recipients recently made headlines for protecting a serial criminal who murdered a young woman. The money flows through the Department of Justice (DOJ), the agency responsible for enforcing the law and defending the interests of the United States. The DOJ is also charged with providing federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime, according to its mission statement, and seeking just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior.

Apparently this doesn’t apply to local governments that support the president’s broad open borders policies, even when they violate federal law. The DOJ doled out $342,168,401 to 10 sanctuary states and cities that proudly reject federal claims for criminal illegal aliens earmarked for removal, according to the agency’s independent watchdog. Among them is Connecticut, a trailblazer in the sanctuary movement that received more than $69 million in grants from the DOJ. Connecticut has long protected illegal immigrants with sanctuary policies and even offers them special drivers’ licenses, known as Drive Only. The state also gives illegal aliens discounted tuition at public colleges and universities and authorities work hard to restrict the feds from deporting illegal immigrants. Last year an illegal immigrant who had spent 17 years in prison for attempted murder stabbed a 25-year-old woman to death in Norwich, a city of about 40,000 residents. The murderer had been earmarked for deportation at least three times.

California, also a renowned sanctuary state that offers illegal immigrants a number of taxpayer-funded perks, topped the list with $132,409,635 in DOJ grants. Judicial Watch has investigated the state’s illegal sanctuary policies for years and back in 2008 launched a California public records request with the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department to obtain the arrest and booking information on Edwin Ramos, an illegal alien from El Salvador who murdered three innocent American citizens. Ramos was a member of a renowned violent street gang and had been convicted of two felonies as a juvenile (a gang-related assault on a bus passenger and the attempted robbery of a pregnant woman) yet he was allowed to remain in the country. Last year Judicial Watch obtained records showing that violent crime—including murder and rape—in the Bay area has skyrocketed since the San Francisco Sheriff and City Council expanded illegal alien sanctuary policies in 2013. Under the ordinance San Francisco law enforcement agencies are required to ignore most U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers. Judicial Watch is also investigating whether the city violated the law again with its sanctuary policy that led to the release of Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an illegal immigrant deported five times who gunned down Kate Steinle at one of the most popular tourist spots in San Francisco.

Hillary Clinton’s Immigration Goals Would Irrevocably Undermine National Security

CAPS — Our nation’s immigration laws are completely blind as to race, religion and ethnicity, and were enacted to protect national security and the lives and livelihoods of Americans.

My previous post for CAPS, “Hillary Clinton’s Immigration Goals Make Her Economic Promises Impossible to Achieve,” focused on how providing potentially tens of millions of illegal aliens with an equal standing in the overflowing labor pool of unemployed or underemployed American and lawful immigrant workers would exacerbate the plight of these desperate workers and their families.

Today my focus will be on how Hillary Clinton’s proposal to provide millions of illegal aliens with lawful status would do irreparable harm to national security and public safety.

Hillary has made much of having been Secretary of State. During her acceptance speech at the DNC she said, in part, “We will not build a wall,” thereby echoing the remarks of her successor at the State Department, John Kerry who, in his commencement address at Northeastern University several months ago, said, in part, that America could not remain great by hiding behind walls.

I recently wrote a commentary about Kerry’s dangerous globalist agenda that apparently is paralleled by Clinton, “John Kerry: Enthusiastic Proponent of a ‘Borderless World.’”

Metaphorically, America’s borders are her walls.

One of the critical roles of the State Department is to issue visas to aliens who seek entry into the United States. The visa process came under scrutiny by the 9/11 Commission. It identified failures in border security and failures of the visa process that enabled the 19 terrorists in the 9/11 hijackings and terrorists who preceded them. Visa fraud was a means to enter the U.S., allowing them to embed themselves in the country as they went about their deadly preparations.

Senator Fears CBP Agent Let Illegal Immigrant Brother Smuggle Drugs

WASHINGTON EXAMINER — Customs and Border Patrol agents keep catching the same drug trafficker on the southern border whose brother happens to be a senior CBP agent, and Senate investigators want to know if the illegal immigrant has been getting special treatment.

The case involves Miguel Angel Padilla Heredia, a Mexican citizen with a history of robbery and drug smuggling who has been arrested repeatedly at the border of Arizona and Mexico. At one point, Padilla tried to claim eligibility for the deferred action policy that President Obama announced in 2012, but he was ordered deported, only to return in December 2013.

Padilla was stopped at a border patrol check point and “allegedly narcotics were discovered in his vehicle,” but he wasn’t deported.

“It is unknown what occurred during this specific interaction, and whether this was the first instance in which Mr. Padilla attempted to smuggle narcotics into the United States,” Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, R-Wis., wrote in a July 26 letter to Department of Homeland Security Inspector General John Roth.

What is known, however, is that the alleged drug smuggler’s brother, Manuel Padilla, was chief of the Tucson Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol when he was stopped at that checkpoint. The CBP officer is now a chief patrol agent for the Rio Grande Valley Sector.

Johnson wants Roth to investigate the immigrant’s interactions with the Border Patrol to learn more about his most recent stop at the border checkpoint and find out if the border patrol chief had “any influence” on his brother’s case.

“While the committee is not aware of any direct evidence that Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla took any action on behalf of his brother, the fact that his brother allegedly entered the country illegally during the time of Chief Patrol Agent Padilla’s leadership of the Tucson Sector raises concerns,” Johnson wrote to Roth.

Remembering When Democrats Turned Their Backs on American Workers

“Democrats are the party of working people. But we haven’t done a good enough job showing that we get what you’re going through, and that we’re going to do something about it.” –– Hillary Clinton, accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for president, July 28

CENTER FOR IMMIGRATION STUDIES — Hillary Clinton’s claim that Democrats are “the party of working people” brings to mind the Senate hearing where Ted Kennedy made it clear that on immigration policy they had walked away from that historic trust. I was a reporter at that hearing, and I remember it well.

It was 2006 and Kennedy was urging colleagues on the Judiciary Committee to support comprehensive reform that would not only provide legal status to millions of illegal immigrants but also bring in hundreds of thousands of additional foreign workers annually who would also be given a path to citizenship.

Kennedy and other Democrats were willing to flood low-wage labor markets because that was the price of support from business lobbyists who were expected to attract Republican support. Those lobbyists included representatives of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Manufacturers, the National Restaurant Association, and the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

Kennedy made common cause with the employers whom he normally opposed on such issues as the minimum wage, health care benefits, and the rights of unions to organize workers. But at that 2006 hearing on immigration reform, the liberal lion planted his tongue in his cheek and declared that he had become “the spokesman for the Chamber of Commerce.”

The irony of the hearing doubled when Sen. Jon Kyl, a rock-ribbed conservative and former chairman of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, demanded that attention be paid to how the bill would hurt American workers. Kyl predicted that if Kennedy got his way, the next economic downturn would summon the wrath of constituents competing for work with the millions of new guest workers. He noted that the bill would allow the new workers to settle permanently in the United States.

Obama Paid State Terror Sponsor, Iran, $400 Million for American Hostages

FOX NEWS — The U.S. government airlifted the equivalent of $400 million to Iran this past January, which occurred as four detained Americans were released by Tehran, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

The cash transfer was the first installment paid in a $1.7 billion settlement the Obama administration reached with Iran to resolve a failed 1979 arms deal dating from just before the Iranian Revolution.

State Department spokesman John Kirby denied the cash transfer was done to secure the release of the four Americans.

The negotiations over the [arms deal] settlement … were completely separate from the discussions about returning our American citizens home,” Kirby said in a statement. “Not only were the two negotiations separate, they were conducted by different teams on each side.”

Calling Islamist Terrorism by Its Name

WASHINGTON TIMES — The president’s “strategy” to defeat ISIS has five major parts: 1) support an international coalition to degrade and destroy it, 2) pursue ISIS leadership and safe havens, 3) secure the homeland, 4) expand humanitarian support and 5) solve diplomatic conflicts that feed terrorism. The list drives much effort, but it’s not a strategy because it fails to attack the political and social objectives that motivate ISIS fighters. Arguing about whether or not it’s a strategy is meaningless because whatever it is, the CIA says it isn’t working.

One reason it’s failing is because the president and Hillary Clinton refuse to identify Islamist terrorists as the nation’s main enemy. Their justification for doing so is that it will be perceived as an attack on Islam. It is a specious argument, disrespectful, disdainful and elitist. Apparently, they believe nobody is smart enough, or fair enough, to distinguish between extremists who slaughter innocents and people who follow their religious beliefs without harming others.

The consequences of this political correctness go well beyond semantics. It undermines trust in the government’s ability to handle the threat, the Department of Justice being its most recent victim. Referring to the Orlando terrorist attack, a New York Sun editorial said: “It’s hard to recall a moment when the American Justice Department has looked so ridiculous as in its censoring transcripts of the 911 calls from the gunman at Orlando. George Orwell couldn’t have made it up.” From “workplace violence,” to “man caused terrorism,” to “violent extremism,” the euphemisms used to obfuscate Muslim involvement in terrorist attacks raise questions of the administration’s competence. To win, we must have faith that our institutions know what they’re doing. That’s hard to do when they’re constantly manipulating the facts.

Morality and the Second Amendment

FOX NEWS — The most fundamental goal of any people—and of any government that is of, by, and for the people—must be to protect civilization.

Only in a state of civilization, in which personal and property rights are protected from the forces of the metaphorical jungle, can we truly be free.

For only then can we go to bed secure that, come morning, we’ll wake to find ourselves and our loved ones still safe, and the property we labored to acquire still there.

The problem confronting millions of Americans is that they do not live within the geographical borders of civilization. They are trapped in asphalt jungles, where crime is rampant and police response times are alarmingly long.

What are they to do? From a moral standpoint, if you are an adult mired in so sorry a condition, you have a duty to protect your loved ones who depend on you, including your spouse and children. You simply cannot abandon them to the forces of the jungle, no matter how ubiquitous they are.

Unless you can somehow uproot and move to a safe and civilized place, the answer for you likely is to own a firearm. Despite what you may hear or read to the contrary, guns save far more lives than they take.

From Coast-to-Coast, Thousands Line Up for Jobs

CAPS — Between today and November, political incumbents and their challengers will make a lot of promises to disgruntled voters. One of the most often repeated will be that, if elected, the first matter of business will be to create more jobs for the struggling economy.

Across the U.S., the employment crisis is dire. Last week in Queens, New York City’s second most populous and most diverse borough, hundreds of young men slept on the streets and waited through the rain in the hope that they would get an application to the Plumbers Union Apprenticeship program. After resume reviews, tests and interviews, only a small percentage will qualify for the five-year program.

One job candidate explained why an estimated 1,200 endured the elements. Top union plumbing jobs pay $67 an hour, and the second tier positions pay $40. According the June Bureau of Labor Statistics report, a plumber’s mean average wage is $26.49.

Considering the bluster about job creation politicians put forward, they offer precious little in the way of tangibles about how they’ll improve the grim employment picture. One solution is addition by subtraction; that is, offer fewer employment-based visas to overseas workers.

Reducing such visas would, by definition, open up more jobs to unemployed or under-employed Americans. The State Department offers more than 50 different categories of work-related visas valid for hundreds of employment categories.

But even though last year’s high profile cases at Disney, Toys “R” Us, Southern California Edison and Abbott Labs proved conclusively that importing workers, specifically H-1B visa holders, displaces Americans and stagnates wages for those that still have a job, lobbying for more visas continues unabated. Rosario Marin, U.S. Treasurer under President George W. Bush, wrote in her recent Wall Street Journal op-ed that “American companies need high-skilled international workers, not only to compete, but to survive.”

Marin may not know that in Silicon Valley, tech layoffs during 2016’s first four months have more than doubled compared to the same period last year. Accordingly, hiring has slackened. The workers Marin wants to import would have no place to go unless they take an existing employee’s job. The Economic Policy Institute took a broader look at the economy and found that 2.6 million potential workers are neither employed nor looking for employment. EPI calls them “missing workers.”

Silicon Valley giants don’t have to go abroad to recruit talent. Plenty of it exists right in their back yard. Earlier this month, young techies came out in droves in the Bay Area with the hope of finding a good job. More than 5,000 college-aged students and interns registered for San Francisco’s annual Internapalooza jobs fair. The crowd included UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Institute of Technology, Duke and University of Pennsylvania graduates with degrees in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering and marketing.

Increasing the numbers of visas would be good news for employers because it means more cheap labor, but terrible for the young Americans who have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in their educations. When the political class and the corporate elite advocate for more visas, they’re also supporting fewer jobs for Americans which begs the question: Why don’t elected officials care more about struggling citizens than they do about votes and corporate interests?
